It’s been two years since the sandpaper scandal took place due to which David Warner the then vice-captain of Australia National Cricket Team along with the then captain Steve Smith was banned for 1 year from all formats of the cricket and Cameron Bancroft was banned for 9 months.
In 2019 they make a comeback to the national teams. David Warner was tremendous in the IPL 2019 and also ended the season as the highest run-scorer of the season by scoring 692 runs in just 12 innings. To join the World Cup squad he left the last few matches of IPL. Then came the World Cup 2019 and his form continued. Though he failed to be as impressive in Test cricket.
As due to the global outbreak of novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) almost all the cricket matches and series are either postponed or cancelled. Due to this IPL 2020 has also been postponed from 29th March to 15th April but it will not be able to start from 15th also as India is under lockdown till 14th April. David Warner was named the Captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.
In a recent interview, Warner's manager James Erskine confirmed that he will play IPL if it takes place. David Warner was named the Captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise for IPL 2020. Although his manager also disclosed about his unavailability for the inaugural season of The Hundred.
Erskine said “If the IPL is on David Warner’s planning on going. If things change dramatically, which can happen in the space of an hour, the answer is you change your mind. It’s no different to everybody else,”.
David Warner explained about his unavailability for the inaugural season of The Hundred. He said, “I was excited to participate in The Hundred’s inaugural season with Southern Brave, though with the latest updates to the Cricket Australia schedule in the middle part of 2020, and due to the exceptionally busy cricketing program over the last 12 months, I have decided to put my family first and spend this time of the year with them.”
